Discussion:
Can I "improve" the Looks of Xine-ui's Menus OR Can I Setup Gxine to Perform as Well as Xine-ui?

hello to another mailing list!

first of all, xine-ui is the best performing video player on my old
laptop. great and thanks to many people over the years...

this post contains 2 questions.

------------------------------

1.)
skinning is not to hard, but i would like to change the looks of the
right-click menu, tooltips and setup dialog.
the skin resembles my gtk-style (i like to use pixelfonts) but the right
click menu does not fit in.
now i found this file: /usr/local/share/doc/xitk/README
which gives me a blueprint for a xitkrc that will allow me to influence
the looks a little.
it does something when i put it in the appropriate folder - but never
what i intended. the colors change, but seemingly randomly. the example
provided says "almost green" but in fact it's blue. i don't know what
the proper syntax is. the font never changes. does anybody know anything
about this ancient, hidden toolkit?

[excerpt from the file: "colors can be: pixel color value, tripled value
or named colors (see widget.c)" - i don't know what the first two mean,
but i looked up widget.c and it uses names like "maroon" or "peach", but
i never managed to get anything maroon-colored with that. i also tried
this common format: #232e29 and also this: 231,210,176 - always checking
what the actual color is, but it never comes out that way. "black" seems
to be the only one working.]

--------------------------------

2.)
i have also tried gxine, but it doesn't perform as well as xine-ui.
there seem to be, depending on the video, little freezes every 10
seconds or so. no frames are dropped, but the following frames come
faster as if wanting to catch up with the timeline.
aren't they using the same engine? is it possible to move the settings
of xine-ui to gxine?

--------------------------------

any help is appreciated. thanks in advance.

ps: where can i find/share xine-ui-skins?
pps: is it possible to load .srt-subtitles with xine-ui?

i can answer myself on the first part - the colors are coded as decimal
numbers. so, red in hex #ff0000 becomes 16711680. white #ffffff becomes
16777215, and so on.

is it possible to change the font? i tried the format
-*-fixed-medium-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-* as well as fixed or Fixed - no
effect.

apart from that, i'm also still interested in my 2nd question.

cheers.
